Our Teacher Training Adviser (TTA) service is a free service that provides you with tailored, one-to-one support from an experienced teacher throughout the application process.

Jessica applied for teacher training last year. Here she talks about her experience of working with a Teacher Training Adviser and how it made the process of applying for teacher training a smooth one.

“Initially, my TTA Janette contacted me for an informal chat where she talked me through the different routes into teaching and asked about my current experience. She covered the steps of the application process and where I may have weaker areas, for example I lacked recent school experience. She informed me of the School Experience Programme and advised I get at least an extra day before applying, as this would form the majority of my personal statement.

Once I had secured my school experience, Janette took the time to discuss with me the best questions to ask and what to make notes of when observing lessons. Once it came to writing my personal statement, Janette was absolutely invaluable. She looked over my statement and made suggestions and pointed out key areas where I could elaborate and further discuss my experience and desire to teach. This made me much more confident sending my application to universities, as I felt I really had done my best.

When I secured an interview, Janette was there to prepare me for possible questions and be a sounding board for my concerns and nerves.

She emailed me on the morning of my interview to wish me good luck, and when I gave her the news that I had been offered a place — she said that I had made her day!

Overall my experience with Janette couldn’t have been better. She was friendly, informative and caring. Although ultimately the application process and interview outcome was down to me, I felt that the support of my TTA made the road as smooth as possible.”
